Ring Doughnuts

Feeling like a doughy, sweet treat? Give these delicious & simple homemade donuts a try.

Recipe developed by Thilivhali Mash Mugwena


Serves 3 - 5


Ingredients


2 Cups cake flour

2 Tsp yeast

4 Tbsp sugar

1 Tsp salt

200g Salted butter

1 Egg

1 Tsp vanilla essence

1 Cup lukewarm milk

1L Oil


Method


In bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar and salt.

Then pour melted butter, vanilla essence, egg and water.

Combine everything together then transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead until soft.


Cover the dough with a clean cloth and leave it to rise for 1 hour.

Once the dough has doubled in size, transfer it to a floured surface and roll out with a rolling pin. Cut the dough with a round shaped cookie cutter or glass then use a small lid to cut the centre of the round cut dough pieces.

Cover the rings with a cloth and leave them to rise for 30 minutes.


Heat oil in and deep fry the doughnuts until golden in colour.


Place doughnuts on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.


Tip: Coat the doughnuts with any icing of your choice.
